The girls were determined to dig deep to secure a win after a tough match last weekend!
We last played taunton away and lost 3-2 but all agreed we could have made improvements, so we knew this would be a close game with all our efforts in practice.
We had a fast powerful start to the game, securing 2 short corners in the first few minutes, unfortunately with no score. But this gave our team a positive start and plenty of belief!
We had all worked hard in training this week, particularly on the efficiency of 16’s and reducing the amount of ‘hit and hope’. This was implemented into our game and made a big difference to the speed of the game. We also had a large squad which was brilliant to allow lots of substitutions to be made to have a constant rotation of fresh legs!
We put the pressure on taunton with several short corners but their goalie made some outstanding saves, proving to us that we needed something special to bypass her. Our first goal came in the first half from a brilliant bit of skill and confidence from Caroline to secure a 1-0 lead.
Our half time chat was really positive, with a main focus on trying different angles/tactics at our short corners, with a few jelly babies consumed!
Taunton came back stronger in the second half, securing a couple of short corners. However, our defensive line held together to clear the ball out quickly without conceding any goals!
Finally, our second half saw two further goals from Kathryn and Edie. Both stemmed from accurate passing, less ‘hitting and hoping’ and great use of space on the wings. This gave our team great confidence that we were only minutes away from our second win of the game!
Overall the girls played extremely well as a team with great communication, which ended in a well deserved 3-0 win!
